Respite can look different for each family. For overnight or short-term stays in a senior living community, many places ask for a minimum stay of about 5 to 7 days, and some allow short stays that extend for several weeks. For daytime-only respite, often called adult day services or adult day programs, your loved one usually attends for part of the day or full days on a regular schedule while you are at work or handling other responsibilities. Respite is usually billed at a daily or weekly rate and varies by community, level of care, apartment type, and length of stay. Many rates include the furnished apartment, meals, and support with daily needs, and some communities may add a short-stay or assessment fee.
